Face-Packs & Remedies
· Take a teaspoon of limejuice and stir in half
a teaspoon of honey and a few drops of milk. Mix well and apply over your face
and neck 15 minutes before you take your bath. This lotion will have a mild
bleaching effect on a greasy skin. If you have oily skin, apply a paste of gram
flour and lemon juice on your face and wash it off after 20 minutes.
· Tomato is a new discovery that is supposed to
be excellent for face and skin care. New products are in the market with tomato
derived active ingredients. Old fashioned mudpacks and their commercial
versions are tried as face care enhancements.
· Take a teaspoonful of turmeric powder mixed
with cream, sandal powder, and Bengal gram flour, make a paste and apply it
once a day for about half an hour before bath. This is an excellent beauty aid
to keep face fresh and soft.
·By rubbing a coat of lemon
over your face, this will lessen the grease and whiten your complexion.
·(For Acne): At night, mix a packet
of fast-acting yeast with enough tea tree oil to make a paste. Tea tree oil
comes from Australia
and is antiseptic, analgesic, and is anti-inflammatory. Spread over the
emerging pimple, and cover it with a bandage. Leave on overnight. Yeast causes
the pimple to rise out of skin, while tree oil attacks it.
·Soak a cotton ball in warm
salt water. Press on top of blemish for three minutes to dissolve the top.
Remove blackheads gently so you don`t scar your skin.
· Combine 1/4 cup boiling water with one
teaspoon of Epsom salt and three drops of iodine. Let the mixture cool until
it`s comfortable to the touch. Saturate a cotton ball with mixture and dab on
blackheads. This will allow them to loosen so they can be easily squeezed with
a gauze pad. When the blemish is gone, dab a bit of honey on the affected area
to deep-clean the pore and draw out bacteria. Let sit for ten minutes, then
rinse with warm water.
· (For Dry skin): Warm 1/4-cup olive oil in
microwave. Make sure it`s comfortable to the touch and massage into skin. Wipe
off with a cotton towel.
· (For Freckles): Keep them from getting worse
and prevent new ones by using sunscreen wherever your skin is exposed. To fade
existing freckles, apply a mixture of boric acid powder, mixed with lemon.
Massage into freckled area, then rinse. Follow up with an application of
hydroquinone. For very sensitive skin, don`t use a lemon and mix the boric acid
powder with warm water instead.
· (For Wrinkles): Take a vitamin C tablet and
dissolve it in 1/2 teaspoon boiling water. Vitamin C is the only topical
antioxidant that has been proven to prevent oxidation of tissue. Let the water
cool until comfortable to the touch. Add it to a small amount of eye cream, and
gently apply it under the eye and around the mouth. Never use a facial
moisturizer on the eye area if you have sensitive skin.

If you are too busy to stop at the spa for essential skin
care treatment, then try these facials at home to relax your mind and body. The
process of cleansing, exfoliating, steaming, and hydrating can be done with
some basic steps and ingredients. Experience a variety of treatment options and
products to revitalize your skin, replenish essential nutrients and to reduce
the signs of skin damage and skin aging.
Things you will need
Facial moisturizer, facial cleanser, face masks, cotton balls, towels, large bowl of hot steamy water, face scrub and eye cream.
Time required : 30- 45 minutes
The Process
Relax your mind: To relax the mind, lure your senses by turning off the bright lights. Light some aromatic candles in the bathroom with a soft music at the background.
Cleanse your skin: Cleansers help to get rid of dirt and
make up without any traces. With the help of a milk cleanser clean the skin
gently in a circular motion. Apply the cleanser to your face and throat, and
use upward circular motions, to all the way up to the hairline, and down to the
breastbone. After a fine massage, rinse well with warm water and pat it dry.Things you will need

The Process

Exfoliate : Exfoliate your face with a gentle face scrub. You can use a grain-based scrub like oatmeal and apricot Concentrate on the areas around your nose and forehead. For a combination skin, work harder on the areas that are more oily. Make sure to use scrubs that don't dry your face. Rinse it with lukewarm water.
Steaming time: Steaming is essential as it opens the pores and increases circulation on the skin's surface. Select herbs like s lavender, mint or calendula for dry skin or mint, lavender, rose and witch hazel, for oily skin or try calendula, chamomile, or comfrey for sensitve skin and boil it in a bowl of water. Pour hot steamy water in a large bowl and bring it to the place you are going to do the facial. Lean your face over the bowl about a foot away and cover your head and the bowl to preserve the steam. If you feel a burning sensation then stop for few seconds and repeat it. Keep the steam going for about 10 to 15 minutes.
Tonic: As the pores are open, your skin is in ideal state for maximum absorption. So, gently massage a regenerating serum or tonic at this stage.
